DAN and dive insurance

Diving is safe, but responsible divers still prepare for the rare emergency. Every Nautilus service already includes a Magenta insurance policy, and we strongly recommend that divers also carry a DAN (Divers Alert Network) membership, an organization dedicated entirely to diving safety and emergencies. Insurance is the safety net you hope never to use but are very glad to have. This guide explains what each covers and why it matters, especially on a remote island like Isla Fuerte.

What DAN provides

DAN is a nonprofit focused on diver safety. Membership and its dive-accident coverage give you access to a 24-hour emergency hotline staffed by diving-medicine experts, help coordinating evacuation, and specialized dive-medical advice.

Crucially, DAN can guide the right treatment, including directing you to a hyperbaric chamber, which is exactly the kind of specialized support a general travel policy rarely offers.

Why the location matters

Isla Fuerte is a beautiful, remote Caribbean island, and the nearest hyperbaric chamber, used to treat decompression sickness, is in Coveñas on the mainland. In a serious event, fast coordination and evacuation support are what count.

This is exactly where DAN's hotline and logistics network add value, helping arrange the right care quickly when every step matters.

Magenta and DAN together

Your included Magenta policy provides a baseline of coverage on every Nautilus dive. Adding a DAN membership layers on diving-specific expertise and emergency coordination that complements it well.

  • Magenta: included with every Nautilus service.
  • DAN: recommended dive-specific membership.
  • Together: broad coverage plus expert dive support.

How to get covered

DAN membership is affordable and easy to arrange online before your trip, with short-term and annual options depending on how often you dive. Set it up in advance so you arrive fully prepared.

If you dive regularly or travel to remote spots like Isla Fuerte, an annual membership quickly pays for its peace of mind.

Peace of mind, so you enjoy the dive

With Magenta included and DAN in your pocket, you can focus on the reef instead of the what-ifs. As a PADI center, we plan every dive to make an emergency unlikely, and the insurance is there for the rare case anyway.

Important

This is general educational information, not medical advice. Always complete the medical questionnaire honestly, dive within your training and, if in doubt, consult a diving physician or contact DAN (Divers Alert Network). In an emergency in Colombia, the nearest hyperbaric chamber is in Coveñas.
