Yes, you can absolutely still dive. Your scuba certification is valid for life and never expires, so a card you earned years or even decades ago still qualifies you today. The only real question is comfort, not paperwork. If it has been a long time since your last dive, the smart and safe move is a short refresher before you hit the reef. Below we explain why a long gap is no barrier, what a refresher involves, and how we ease returning divers back into the water in Isla Fuerte.
Your certification is still valid
There is a common worry that an old certification stops counting, but it does not. PADI and other major agencies issue lifetime certifications, and your qualification level is held in their records. Even if you lost the physical card long ago, we can help you retrieve or replace it.
So the answer to whether you can dive is a clear yes. What we plan around is simply how recently you have dived and how confident you feel today.

What a refresher covers
A refresher is a relaxed review session, not a re-examination. In shallow, calm water you go back over the essentials: assembling your gear, clearing your mask, recovering your regulator, controlling buoyancy and the basic buddy and safety procedures.
It usually takes a single short session and is designed to bring back the muscle memory that may have faded. Most returning divers are surprised how quickly it all comes back once they are breathing underwater again.
Easing back in gently
After the refresher, we do not throw you straight into a challenging dive. Our guides start you with a calm, shallow local dive at one of Isla Fuerte's gentle reef sites, where you can rebuild rhythm and confidence with no pressure.
Only once you feel solid do we suggest anything more ambitious. This step-by-step approach is why so many people who had drifted away from diving rediscover it here without stress.

Health check before you return
If several years have passed, it is also worth a quick honest look at your health, since bodies change over time. We ask every diver to complete a medical questionnaire, and some conditions simply need a doctor's clearance first. Every dive is also covered by Magenta insurance and backed by DAN, with the nearest chamber in Coveñas.
Tell us how long it has been and we will design the perfect comeback dive. Browse our courses and dives or read more guides for returning divers.
