How deep you go is tied directly to your training and certification level. A Discover Scuba minicourse stays shallow, usually under 12 meters, an Open Water diver can go to 18 meters, and an Advanced diver to 30 meters. These limits are not arbitrary, they match the skills and experience you have built, so every diver stays comfortably within their range. In Isla Fuerte, depth is never the point: some of the most colorful, life-filled reefs are in the first ten meters, where the light is brightest and the coral gardens are richest. You can have an extraordinary dive without ever going deep.
Depth by certification
The minicourse keeps you shallow and supervised, the Open Water certification opens up 18 meters, and Advanced training extends your range to 30 meters. Each step adds skills that make the extra depth safe.
Your certification is essentially a passport that says how deep you have been trained to dive. We honor those limits on every trip.

Shallow is beautiful
The richest life on any reef is where the sunlight reaches, in the first ten meters. Corals, colors and fish are all more vivid up shallow, and your air lasts far longer there too.
Beginner sites like Rosa Vieja and El Museo prove that a shallow dive can be the most memorable one of the trip. Depth is not what makes a dive great.
For those who want the deep
The Bushnell expedition takes advanced, certified divers into deeper, more dramatic terrain for experienced eyes. It is a serious dive that rewards proper training and cool nerves.
Bajo Bonito, with its submerged Zenú museum, is another special site that shows how much Isla Fuerte offers below the beginner reefs. Depth here is a reward you grow into.

Grow at your own pace
You never have to go deeper than you want. Many divers happily spend years exploring shallow reefs, while others train up step by step toward the deeper expeditions.

Deeper is not better
New divers sometimes assume deeper means more impressive, but experienced divers know the opposite is often true. The reef is brightest and busiest where sunlight is strong, and your air lasts longer to enjoy it.
Chasing depth for its own sake misses the point of Isla Fuerte's shallow gardens. The best diving is simply where the life is.
