FAQ

How cold is the water in Isla Fuerte?

The water in Isla Fuerte is warm all year round, staying at a comfortable 27 to 29°C in every season. This is some of the most pleasant diving water anywhere in the world, and it is one of the reasons the Colombian Caribbean is such a joy to explore. You do not face the shock of cold water or the bulk of a thick wetsuit that divers in temperate seas must deal with. Instead, a rash guard or a thin 3mm wetsuit is all you need, which keeps you light, relaxed and free to enjoy long, easy dives over colorful reefs.

Warm water, all year

Isla Fuerte sits in the tropical Caribbean, so seasonal temperature swings are small. Whether you visit in the dry season or the rainy months, the water stays reliably warm.

That consistency means you can plan a diving trip any time of year without worrying about the cold. It is one of the quiet luxuries of diving here.

What to wear

A rash guard or a thin 3mm wetsuit is all the thermal protection you need in this warm water. The wetsuit also protects you from sun and the occasional brush against coral.

We provide the gear, so you just show up ready for warm, easy diving. There is no need to buy or pack a thick suit.

Staying comfortable over a day

Even warm-water divers can cool slightly over repeated dives, since water draws heat from the body faster than air. A thin wetsuit and a warm layer for the surface interval keep you comfortable all day.

Between dives, the tropical sun and a towel warm you up quickly. Most divers feel perfectly cozy the whole trip.

Comfort means longer dives

Warm water does more than feel nice, it lets you stay down longer and more comfortably, since your body is not spending energy fighting the cold. Relaxed, warm divers breathe slowly and get more from every tank.

It is a big reason first dives in Isla Fuerte feel so easy and unhurried. Comfort and enjoyment go hand in hand.
