FAQ

Do you need a license to scuba dive?

You do not need a license to try scuba diving for the first time, but you do need certification to dive independently. The difference matters. Programs like PADI Discover Scuba let anyone from age 10 breathe underwater under the direct supervision of a certified instructor, with no license required. To rent gear, fill tanks and dive without an instructor at your side, you need an entry-level certification such as PADI Open Water, which never expires once earned. In short, everyone can experience diving right away, and those who fall in love can earn a lifelong credential in just a few days.

Try it with no license

The Discover Scuba experience is designed for people with zero certification and often zero experience. A certified instructor stays beside you the entire time, handling the technical details.

It is the perfect low-commitment way to find out if diving is for you. Many divers' entire journey began with one of these first dives.

Every service includes gear, insurance and boat transfer.

Why certification exists

A certification teaches you to plan dives, manage your air, equalize, handle your gear and respond to problems on your own. It is what makes independent diving safe, and the skills stay with you for the rest of your diving life.

Dive centers worldwide require it before they will fill your tank or take you diving without direct supervision. It is a universal standard, not local red tape, so the card you earn here works on reefs across the globe.

It never expires

Once you earn a PADI Open Water certification, it is yours for life and never expires. You can dive anywhere in the world, at any time, for the rest of your life.

If years pass between dives, a short refresher restores your skills and confidence. The credential itself stays valid forever.
