FAQ

Can I dive on my period?

Yes, you can dive during your period, and there is no medical reason not to. Menstruation does not stop you from diving safely, and countless women dive throughout their cycle comfortably every day. The idea that your period rules out diving is a myth. What matters is simply your own comfort and how you feel on the day. Below we clear up the common concerns, share practical tips for diving on your period in Isla Fuerte, and explain the one rule that always applies: listen to your body.

No medical reason to skip it

There is no evidence that diving during your period is dangerous. A common worry is about sharks being attracted to menstrual blood, but this is not supported by real-world diving experience, and any flow is minimal and contained in the water.

Diving is a normal, safe activity at any point in your cycle. Many instructors and professional divers work straight through their periods without a second thought, and so can you.

Practical comfort tips

Use whatever menstrual protection you normally prefer and trust. Tampons or a menstrual cup are popular choices for diving because they are discreet and secure under a wetsuit, but pads work too if that is what suits you.

Stay well hydrated before and after the dive, and bring what you need for the surface interval and the boat ride back to Paso Nuevo. A little planning means your period simply fades into the background of a great day of diving.

Listen to how you feel

Some women experience cramps, fatigue or bloating during their period, and everyone's cycle is different. If you feel strong and well, dive as normal. If you feel unwell, tired or crampy on a given day, it is completely fine to sit a dive out and join the next one.

This is not a rule specific to periods, it is the golden rule of diving: if you do not feel right for any reason, you do not dive. There is no pressure and no judgement.
