Rincón del Mar is a small, bohemian fishing village on the coast of Sucre, north of Córdoba, that has quietly become a favorite among backpackers and beach lovers. Its unpaved streets, colorful houses and glowing bioluminescent nights give it a laid-back charm, and it serves as the mainland launch point for boats to the beautiful San Bernardo Islands. For travelers exploring Colombia's southern Caribbean coast, Rincón del Mar is a memorable stop on the same route that leads toward Isla Fuerte.
Where Rincón del Mar is
Rincón del Mar sits on the coast of the department of Sucre, on the Gulf of Morrosquillo, roughly between Tolú and Cartagena. It is reachable by road from Tolú or from the main coastal highway, with onward connections toward Montería and the Córdoba coast.
The village faces a calm bay of warm Caribbean water. From here, boats head out to the San Bernardo archipelago, a cluster of small islands and reefs a short distance offshore.

The San Bernardo Islands
The San Bernardo Islands are an archipelago of about ten islands within the Corales del Rosario y de San Bernardo National Natural Park. They include Isla Múcura, Isla Tintipán and the astonishing Santa Cruz del Islote, said to be one of the most densely populated islands on Earth, where houses cover nearly every meter of a tiny cay.
The islands offer white-sand beaches, mangroves, seagrass beds and coral patches. The water is warm and often turquoise, ideal for snorkeling, swimming and easy relaxed days on the sand.
What to do in and around Rincón
Rincón del Mar itself is about slowing down: hammocks, fresh seafood, sunsets over the water and, on dark nights, the magical blue glow of bioluminescent plankton stirred by your hands. Day trips by boat visit the San Bernardo Islands for snorkeling and beach time.
The vibe is social and low-key, popular with independent travelers. It pairs well with the quieter, more remote feel of the Córdoba coast further south, giving you variety along a single stretch of Caribbean.

San Bernardo, then Isla Fuerte
The San Bernardo Islands are gorgeous for snorkeling and beach days, but they see plenty of boat traffic and day-trippers. If you want the same warm Caribbean water with more space, quieter reefs and real diving, continue south to Isla Fuerte.
Nautilus, the island's PADI dive center, offers 29 dive sites and small groups led by certified instructors, from beginner reefs to advanced walls. Think of Rincón del Mar and San Bernardo as the relaxed opening act, and let our courses and dives and more guides take you deeper.
