The moray eel is a curious predator that peeks from crevices in the reef, its mouth opening and closing as it breathes.
How to recognize it
A long, muscular, snake-like body wedged into a hole, with a gaping mouth full of teeth. That open mouth is just breathing, not a threat.

Where and when to see it
In Isla Fuerte divers regularly spot it at Rosa vieja, Bajo humedo, Socorro, Bajo de los pargos, El planchon, Bajo del medio, Bushnell cantil del este, Bushnell fondo barracuda. Explore every site on our interactive dive map.
Diver's note
Never put your hands in holes or feed a moray. Left alone, it is harmless and fascinating to watch.

Dive with respect
We practice good buoyancy and never touch or chase marine life. Watching an animal behave naturally is the whole point, and it keeps the reef of Isla Fuerte alive for the next diver.
