FAQ

How many dives can I do in a day?

Most divers comfortably do two or three dives in a single day, with a proper surface interval between each one to let nitrogen work its way out of the body. Two or three is the sweet spot for enjoying the reef without overloading yourself, and it leaves energy for the rest of your day on the island. The exact number depends on your depths, your air use and how you feel. Here is how a diving day is structured, why the surface interval matters, and how we plan it so you stay safe and relaxed.

Why two or three is the sweet spot

Diving is relaxing, but it still asks something of your body, and after a couple of dives most people are pleasantly tired and happy. Two or three dives lets you explore different sites, from a calm coral garden to something deeper, without pushing your limits.

It also fits naturally into a boat day out of Paso Nuevo: a dive, a break with a snack and some sun, another dive, and you are back with plenty of the day left to enjoy Isla Fuerte above water too.

The surface interval explained

Between dives you spend time at the surface, usually around an hour, resting on the boat or ashore. This surface interval is not just a break, it is essential safety: as you dive your body absorbs nitrogen, and time at the surface lets that nitrogen safely leave your tissues before the next dive.

Skipping or shortening intervals raises the risk of decompression sickness, so we never rush them. The break is also when you hydrate, snack and swap stories about what you just saw.

What sets your daily limit

Several things shape how many dives are sensible in a day: how deep you go, how long you stay, how quickly you use air, and simple tiredness. Deeper dives load more nitrogen and shorten what you can safely do next, which is why a deep outing like the Bushnell expedition is often a day's centerpiece rather than one of three.

Your dive computer and our guides track all of this. Rest, good hydration and honest communication about how you feel are what keep the day well within safe limits.

We plan the whole day for you

You do not have to work any of this out yourself. Your guide plans the depths, times and surface intervals for the day so every dive stays within safe limits, and adjusts on the spot based on how the group is doing.

The goal is a full, satisfying day of diving that still leaves you energy to enjoy the island. Tell us how many dives you are hoping for and we will build the schedule. See our courses and dives to plan yours.
