Diving Isla Fuerte in August

August in Isla Fuerte means lively reefs, watch the forecast. The water stays warm and inviting all year in this corner of the Colombian Caribbean, and each month has its own character underwater. Here is what to expect if you are planning to dive with us in August, and how to make the most of it.

Water and weather

The sea temperature holds between 27 and 29°C throughout August, so a rash guard or a thin 3mm wetsuit is all you need. There is no cold season here, which is part of why Isla Fuerte is such comfortable diving.

In August the surface conditions are typically lively reefs, watch the forecast. Short tropical showers can pass through, usually brief and warm, and rarely spoil a day of diving. Our guides read the day each morning and choose the sites that match the wind, swell and your level.

Visibility and what the diving is like

Visibility in August is generally good, with clear stretches between passing weather. The sheltered reef sites stay enjoyable even when the open water gets a little more movement, so there is always somewhere excellent to dive.

What you might see

The reef is alive year-round. In any month you can expect turtles grazing the shallows, schools of grunts and snappers over the coral, moray eels tucked into ledges and, with luck, an eagle ray gliding past. Nurse sharks rest under the ledges by day.
