How to get to Isla Fuerte from Medellín

Isla Fuerte is remote, but easier to reach than most people think. From Medellín the trip combines road or air travel to the coast with a short boat crossing, and with a little planning it is a smooth journey. Here is the route from Medellín, step by step, and how we help you coordinate it.

The route from Medellín

About 9 to 10 hours by road via Caucasia, Planeta Rica and Moñitos to Paso Nuevo, then the boat. Secure partner parking is available.

Whichever way you come, all roads lead to the small fishing town of Paso Nuevo, on the coast of Córdoba. That is where the boat to the island departs.

The boat from Paso Nuevo

The final leg is always a boat from Paso Nuevo across to Isla Fuerte, a crossing of roughly 20 to 30 minutes. Departures follow fixed schedules and depend on the state of the sea, so this is the part to coordinate in advance rather than improvise.

We time your arrival at Paso Nuevo to the boat so you are not left waiting, and on arrival we help with your bags and gear straight to your lodging.

Parking, timing and tips

If you drive, there is secure partner parking near Paso Nuevo where you can leave your car for the length of your stay. Aim to arrive at the coast with daylight to spare, since boats do not cross after dark.

  • Travel light: the boat and island reward small, soft bags
  • Bring cash: card payment is limited on the island
  • Tell us your arrival time so we hold your boat spot
